Faith Works Discipleship Golf Academy is designed to teach God's word through golf. God's word when compared to golf training reveals many similarities... from the importance of your stance or your foundation to the fact that the closer you get to the flag the more danger and the more difficult it becomes. Our goal is to not only develop a camp for junior golfers but to also provide curriculum for other churches to use in their programs.
Faith Works Golf Camp offers a unique blend of golf and spiritual experience not usually found at a junior golf camp. Most of the camps are for youth 10-18 of all skill levels and golf backgrounds.
Faith Works purpose is to provide the best in golf instruction and practice in an atmosphere that exposes the camper to the Christian faith and fellowship. Small group discussion (huddles) led by instructors or young adult golfers, morning and evening chapel programs, recreation, and free time complete the Day's activities. By associating truths in golf to the truth of God's word golf instruction becomes biblical instruction.
"Not everyone who says to me, 'Lord, Lord,' will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only he who does the will of my Father who is in heaven." Matthew 8:2
We believe this verse poses a big question: What is the will of our Father, God? Just as the verse says, many will give their answers as to what it means to understand the will of God, but they will not enter the kingdom of heaven. So, how do you understand the will of God? Simple: you experience His forgiveness. Walk in His presence. You see, each person has a different will of their life, just like a fingerprint-not one is the same. And, unless you are experiencing the presence of God, there is no way you can know or understand His will for your life.
Here is the next question: If you are already experiencing God and are already in His will, are you challenging others to do the same? There is a quote from a book called Waking the Dead; by John Eldridge that I think fits this lesson to a tee. "You might recall the old proverb: 'Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day; teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime.' The same holds true here. Teach a man a rule and you help him solve a problem; teach a man to walk with God and you help him solve the rest of his life." As you go about your week this week, remember this quote. Remember to challenge others walk with God to find His will for their life.
In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth and then created man and the game of golf so that man could enjoy his creation. But it has taking over 2000 years for man to realize that when Jesus in the great commission said for us to go and to make disciples in all nation and to teach the good news that it was OK for us to take our clubs and to teach God's Word through golf.
It's such a natural mix, it's incredible that it has taken this long for someone to bring the two together and use a passion of the heart help in sharing our passion in Christ. Whether you're an avid golfer or an occasional hacker, Gods word will jump off the page as you begin to teach Jesus through golf. From the game of golf to our relationship with Christ it is about a strong foundation, a solid footing, staying focus, from each part of the swing to preparing ourselves for golf or for life, Gods word is there to be told to guide and direct. As you start you'll find it's so rich in comparison that you'll be expanding the program yourself.
As man has been looking for the secret to life and its secrets since the beginning of time he always looked in the wrong place. So the golfer has been looking for the secret golf since the first ball was struck. Looking for that perfect swing some magic trick that makes the game easier, but as in life we are always looking for the quick fix, always looking in wrong direction trusting in man, and man made gimmick to make things better.
Twice a year, Orlando in January and Las Vegas in September at PGA tradeshows thousands of exhibitors use over a million square feet of space to display products and services for the golf consumer - most were designed to help the golfer hit the ball further and straighter. Many golfers believe the secret to the perfect game waits in some new club design or the latest gimmick. Just as in life we are always looking for something to bring us peace and make our life easer - something man has made that will bring us peace. Our young people today are looking to the world for that secret to life in the music they listen to, drugs, gangs, the power of money. They're bombarded daily by MTV, BET, Sports Stars all with a message that happiness can be found in money and power.
From peers at school and on prime time television they are told that the world has the answer and all they need. It is all about a little more stuff. As they search for the answer, it is our job (and a command from our Lord Jesus Christ) that we are to be there and available to share His Love, His way and His answers to life.
Some golf technology can add to the game, but it only takes a golfer one time on the course to learn the true secret to golf comes from dedication and commitment to study and practice. In life, the world may provide things that make life easer but only the study of God's word and a foundation based on Jesus Christ is what brings true happiness to ones life.
Just as Jesus taught the word through everyday life using parallels and analogies, reaching out side the box to reach the lost, so it our goal to take the practical tips from the game of golf and tie them to eternal meaning in Gods word. That we might help shape the lives of children and bring them closer to Jesus Christ. Discipleship Golf Academy hopes to provide you information and lesson plans from the realm of golf and help you relate it to eternal truths of Gods word and encourage young people and adults to apply these truths in their daily lives. You'll also soon realize that this is something you can do at your church in your community it only takes a small yard or even in doors in a gym or family life center by using whiffel balls nets and hitting pads, no mater what the size of your church this program just for you. You also find that local golf courses are more than willing to offer off times at little or no cost.
Dedicated golfers and athletes in all sports recognize the need to warm up before starting the game. Yet too few are in the habit of warming up before a round of golf. When we are not stretched out and limber, we become more prone to injury. We do not play as well as we could if would simply take a few extra minutes to give our bodies a wake-up call that the game is about to begin.
The same is true in our walk with Christ. Life like golf is full of dangers traps and snares waiting to cause us to stumble. We all need to spend time each day warming up before we set out to face our various responsibilities as a student a parent, spouses, employees or a friend. Our spiritual warm-up needs to include reading from God's word and reflecting on its application for the day.
Our spiritual warm-up should always include prayer - a time when we praise God ask for His forgiveness His guidance and seek his help as your partner your friend. It has been said that a person stands tallest on their knees before God. For it's only a relationship we God that can prepare our youth to play the most difficult game of all ...Life!
Discipleship Golf Academy was created to help you train today's youth to walk in Faith. To give them a daily warm - up to their work in life to help keep them focused on eternal thins of life. That in this endeavor they may be drawn closer to God discovering a new and refreshing way to walk with Christ, and grow in wisdom finding the true secret to a more fulfilling life is in Jesus. And who knows while making a difference in the life of a young person through Jesus Christ, you may even improve your life, and your golf game.
